Foot

So I go in for surgery on tomorrow. Basically, I’m having this done. No big deal but I’ll be in one those huge orthopedic boot things for 3 weeks. None of it really scares me…I’m actually quite eager to have the surgery done. I think my brain creates some sort of mechanical analogy, and I think of it in that fashion. It’s like getting brake rotors resurfaced on your car when the run-out is out of spec. It’s like repacking a hub or bottom bracket on a bike with fresh grease and free-balled ball bearings (no retainer ring). Things work a lot more smoothly once it’s all over.

我后悔过去六年

What do you do when you’ve been going in the wrong direction for so long, you’re not sure it’s worth turning around?
I think I’m going to quit photography.

My brain

While doing some recreational Wikipedia browsing, I re-realized something that I had known–that Wikipedia is written by nerds. But not nerds in a bad sense, because I too am a nerd. I came to this conclusion by comparing the length of 3 entries. The entry for “Flirting” is approximately 401 words long. The entry for “Flux Capacitor” is 2064 words long and the entry for “Windows Vista” is 7318 words. By this measure, I have concluded that the average Wikipedia/computer nerd spends 18 times more time (awk) with his computer than he does with girls.
Have you checked out Microsoft Office 2007? It’s much improved and much easier to use…once you get used to not having traditional “File, Edit, View, Insert, etc” menus. There’s a nice 60 free trial too.

It’s great

So I took a little spin around California and visited everyone I know. It’s sad knowing that I’ll never see some of them ever again. Just kidding.

Headed to SoCal to remove myself from SB and hopefully visit friends in LA and SD.

Need to clean out my storage unit.

Chungking

I finally watched Fallen Angels, and realized that it’s the sequel to Chungking express. Both are two of the best movies I’ve ever seen (along with In the Mood for Love and 2046, pronounced 2-0-4-6).

Both movies revolve around Hong Kong and the Chungking Mansion culture. Chungking Mansions is a 1 block ethnic enclave for South Asians (Indians), Africans and lower income Hong Kongese situated in the middle of Hong Kong. I accidentally wandering in to the maze of ghetto ghetto shops and eateries with the lonely planet’s only mention of it in mind: “Some of the best Indian food in Hong Kong can be found in Chungking Mansions.” I got stared down by all of the guys in there, especially because I was holding a camera. I really didn’t feel safe in there. So I sat down at a hole in the wall eatery (after being interrogated about why I was taking pictures) and had a lamb leg, naan and some bad coffee for breakfast. I snapped this picture on the way out. Wong Kar Wai’s movies make so much more sense after seeing Hong Kong culture in person. (Tmax 3200, dumb idea of mine)

This endless cycle

Didn’t make it to Macworld today on account of a beautifully clear day around the bay. Clear days around the city are a rarity and a treat. I drove up into the Marin headlands a bit for a looksee. Yay for tourist pictures!

Off to Macworld…

Going to the Macworld Expo tomorrow…to indulge in some otaku nerd fantasies. Can’t wait to see the iPhone but I don’t think you can play with it, it’s a glass case.

Headed to LA and SB this weekend…

So how about that iPhone? pt 2.

This isn’t a real person. This is a fake person frozen in carbonite, made to look like a real person. Don’t take dayquil at night, it contains phenylephedrine, which is similar to ephedra/ephedrine, which will disallow you from sleeping. (Astia)

So how about that iPhone?

Google patents…hours of fun. You can search through 7 million patents, google style. Some favorites: Elephant incursion prevention apparatus and a method for exercising your cat.
