A Rainy Day

Posted by Greg T. on July 29th, 2007 in New York, Shot on Film

This is my friend Christine.  She claims me to be her oldest (longest time) friend.  We’ve been friends since kindergarten.  Wow I say.  20 years I’ve known her.  That’s her hand.  On the great lawn.  On a warm spring day.  The pixie dust is what happens when two long time friends get together.  Just kidding.  It’s what happens when your undeveloped film gets coffee inside the cansiter.  (film is astia)

Work

Posted by Greg T. on July 26th, 2007 in New York, Shot on Film, Work

It’s strange to work in a touristy area. Work is a block from the New York Stock Exchange (building covered in patriotic clothing). You go outside for tea, go to and from work, and there are always tourists, slowing up traffic, pointing their cameras at the tall tall buildings. Sometimes after work, I’ll walk one block up to Federal Hall, sit on the steps and tourist watch.

This is the intersection of Wall and Nassau, which, up until 9/11, was the site of the most deadly (yet widely unknown) terrorist attack on US soil. (astia film)

To Do

Posted by Greg T. on July 24th, 2007 in Uncategorized

Museums before it’s too late.  The Met.  The Moma.  PS1.  Natural History.  Other suggestions?

I’m going to buy a 1 year family pass to the Moma/PS1.  You can only do it with 2 or more folks and you save over the individual 1 year pass.  Anybody want in?

A meeting place

Posted by Greg T. on July 23rd, 2007 in New York, Shot on Film

I like to meet up with people in Grand Central. It’s probably not the smartest place to meet someone as you can’t just say, “hey lets meet at Grand Central.” It’s enormous, and ‘Grand Central’ can easily mean the Subway, the Concourse, outside, or even anywhere within a 3 block radius.

I have a spot, however. It’s the stairs at either end of the main concourse. It’s one of the most nostalgically awesome perspectives of the station. (astia)

A hole in Lex

Posted by Greg T. on July 18th, 2007 in New York, Shot on Film

There was a large explosion at 41st and Lexington Ave today at the peak of rush hour. I was at work near Wall St, but news travels fast when everyone you know is on IM/Gchat. I quickly learned that it was only a steam pipeline rupture, but in fact it was quite a bit more serious than it appeared initially. Here’s some articulation. The 4 5 6 subway was shut down as a result, if it’s not up and running tomorrow morn, the East Side is gonna be in one serious hissy of a fit, myself included.

Below is an unrelated photo from an unknown emergency near Penn Station. We never found out what was going on, but counted 7 different Fire companies (houses? departments? Terminology?).

And below is a slide show of the current incident courtesy of CNN. I figured out how to embed their swf. I’m sort of ripping it off from their site, but at the same time this poses an excellent idea/opportunity for news media outlets. You can embed every video on the face of the planet, but there is a lot of other content in the form of flash objects that could use some promotional embedding, such as great photojournalism slide shows, like those on Time.com.

A trip

A coworker has access to the roof of a building adjacent to Ground Zero. Hanging out on the roof. (astia)
