My mom is in town to visit. She’s nice like that. We hit up Edomasa, and in usual Edomasa fashion, ordered way too much. The food and style is always authentic (for Santa Barbara). Everyone who works there is Japanese. How awesome is that. None of that Somethings Fishy bullcrap. I hate that place.

I went on a ride with Mike G yesterday. It was a solid workout for me and a recovery ride for him. The best part is the ride/gps/heartrate/elevation/speed/etc data that his Garmin computer spits out. Here it is on the motion based website.

I also got back a round of film. Delayed gratification does wonders for the appreciation of photography.

I like raw eggs

Posted by Greg T. on July 27th, 2006 in Uncategorized

Raw eggs are good on carbs.  I’m serious.  Raw egg plus soy or tonkatsu sauce on hot rice equals gooey goodness.  A raw egg in a bowl of noodles makes the broth thick and rich.  Am I worried about salmonella poisoning?  Not until I get it.  Until then, I’m probably just making my stomach stronger by ingesting trace amounts of salmonella.  People think I’m weird.

.

And I thought to myself, “my what a nice handbag this snake would make.”  Just kidding, but I was attracted to the texture.  This picture doesn’t do all 12.8 megapixels of full framed goodness justice.

8 Days.

I’ll be done with college next Thursday. It’s been a long twisted bumpy road.

A goat at the San Diego Zoo. Why the hell did we go to the petting zoo in one of the best zoos on earth? (love the full frame dof)

Two nights ago I opened the front door to air out the apartment.  There was a white pigeon perched on the railing. It was a bit freaky.  So I grabbed my camera and took some pictures.  It was either sick or had its wings clipped as it didn’t even make an attempt to fly away.  It looked hungry (how can you tell if a pigeon is hungry?) so I gave it some frozen vegetables and water.

The next morning it was gone but taken many a shit on our balconic porch area.  Moral of the story: Pigeons are con artists…so keep an eye on your valuables when you’re in St Marks Square.

I went to San Diego

Posted by Greg T. on July 23rd, 2006 in Uncategorized

I spent the weekend in San Diego with David, Jake, Chris, Karen and others.  Visited the SD Zoo.  It was extraordinarily hot and as a result, a lot of the animals had assumed positions that made them look dead.  They could have been dead for all I know.  Per David’s recommendation, we went to a sushi place in Pacific Beach called Sushi-ota.  It had pricey yet very very fresh sashimi.  It was pretty authentic, I’d recommend it if you love good sashimi.  Went to a Hawaiian joint in Mira Mesa called Bamboo Hut.  It’s like L&L but with sushi and better food.  I had the mochi chicken.  It’s basically chicken breaded in mochiko and egg then deep fried…ohhhh it was good.

There was a peacock roaming around the zoo.  I think he’d escped from his cage.   I gave chase.

Got tuned up

Posted by Greg T. on July 19th, 2006 in Uncategorized

I went to the dentist for the first time in quite a while. New guy. His name is Dr. Grills. Jk. But it must have been quite a damn long while since my last visit. His office and cleaning rooms are now riddled (in a good way) with technology. Each room has it’s own digital x-ray machine which is hooked up to a flat panel, so you can clearly see your cavities. Also employed is the quasi endoscopic camera…the dentist sticks it in your mouth and snaps pictures of your teeth, then brings up on the monitor to show you. There’s a dvd with short educational/mind-easing clips of every dental procedure (root canals, crowns, whitening, etc), so he can show you exactly what procedure you need and why. And the whole time, I’m watching Giada De Laurentis make bacon-wrapped filet mignon on the food network…each room has a tv w/ cable.

In the end, however, I realized that it was all a ploy. They make you feel as comfortable as possible, then tell you about the 9 resin surface touch ups that you need that will cost you $875 in out-of-pocket expenses. Blast. But thanks Luke, for recommended a really good dentist.

In the clothing/mannequin district, Bangkok Thailand. Talking about past and future travels got me excited and digging through old stuff.

49 Days

Posted by Greg T. on July 17th, 2006 in Uncategorized

49 days until China. I’m looking foward to not coming back.
This is Jake at a really good pho place in SD. I had one of my top meals of all time at this place. Partly because the food is really good, but also because a hot steaming bowl of delicious pho arrived at our table less than 1 minute after we ordered it. That’s great service in my mind. If you’re hungry (presumably why you’d go a restuarant in the first place) why would you want to wait at all for your food?  The yellow on the side is from accidentally opening the back of the camera and exposing the film to light before it was completely wound. I’m a noob. (Astia 100)
