New Pad

Posted by Greg T. on October 30th, 2005 in Uncategorized

Moved into the new pad, thanks Rey for the help. Pretty nice, parking, free internet from someone named linksys, and I get the place to myself for a week or two.

Did a commercial shoot with Paul Pan for a British Mag…has a readership of about 100,000 people so hopefully we really screwed up thus ruining any career I was to have in photography.

Oh yeah…it’s Halloween, partied last night, but went and shot in IV w/ the Mike. It was kinda nice not being wasted wandering through the masses of uncreative costumes. #1 played out costume: slutty bumble bee.

Isla Vista, CA. Thanks 6602 dp for your balcony, the best balcony in IV.

Going

Definitely going to miss IV.

Grand Palace, Bangkok, Thailand.

Bangkok, Thailand. A soldier stands ready to guard the grand palace. They looked pretty menacing w/ bayonettes drawn, but I just noticed that there’s no magazine in the gun, even though there’s a lot of ammo under the table.

good ole times

While recompiling my itunes, I rediscovered a band that I had totally forgotten about. Anybody remember Gravity Willing? Probably IV’s best band of recent. They were here around 2001 and 2002…I think they broke up in 2003. I’d rather listen to them on DP than the bands out there these days. Maybe I’m just getting old and bitter.

Anyways they’re kinda like Toad the Wet Sprocket but with better instrumentals (lots of cool harmonies) and a little harder.

Here is one of their songs, which I’m sure they don’t care if I put out there…it’s not like they’re gonna lose business now (even though you can still buy their cd on bestbuy.com, buy.com, cduniverse.com etc).

Kota Kinabalu, Borneo. A boat passes in front of one of the many amazing sunsets. I’m not sure what’s up w/ the American Flag.

Day of editing

Posted by Greg T. on October 24th, 2005 in Uncategorized

All day editing session with the Mitch. “A Room for Sara.” Keep an eye out for it in the SB film fest.

Girls perform traditional Cambodian dances at a “bbq” put on by our hostel in Siem Reap. Even though it was a traveler/tourist bbq it was an intimate and quaint performance to benefit local disadvantaged Cambodian children (not a silly hotel luau). Twas the only meal I got food poisoning from.

9-5

Posted by Greg T. on October 22nd, 2005 in Uncategorized

Thus ends my first week of 9 to 5ing it. Is it really a job if you can IM and myspace at work? I guess it is. My boss’s friend fowards email jokes to her, all of which end up in the inbox for the email account. Brad Pitt is on the joke email fowarding list. Interesting…

The new fry’s in oxnard is a place of magic and delight. Why I have 900 gigs of hard drive space confounds me. How it all gets used up also confounds me.

House hunting more with the Dave tomorrow. SB International Film Fest entry editing on Sunday.

Everyone’s a sucker for sunsets. Our three nights in Borneo had amazing amazing sunsets, with a perfect view from our hotel room. I’m not sure why the hotel gave us hooligans one of the best rooms in the hotel (it was a 5 star Hyatt for about $75 per night per room)

Things just came together. Standing in the rain on an island off the coast of Borneo…and things just seemed to come together.

Moving

Posted by Greg T. on October 19th, 2005 in Uncategorized

Didn’t get the place dt, and trust me it was sweet, it kinda reminded me of home. Hardwood floor…building from the 30s or 40s…it wasn’t some “new carpent, new paint” apartment complex from the 60s. It had charm. At least I made the top 3 cut of the landlord’s selection. She was very nice.

Tomorrow is another round of looking, calling, filling out apps, not to mention the 9 to 5.

Rey and I messed around again with silly stop motion. My only goal was to make an HD stop motion movie. He had alterior motives. My goal of 720p was achieved.

reystopmotion.wmv (24.8 megs)

(requires Windows Media Player 10)
I made a quicktime of it, but it came out to be 9 gigs…I think Vegas’s encoder is broken.

Rey’s balls. Stop motion while also controling camera movement, camera focus, movement of a person and movement of an object is pretty hard.

I should go to bed earlier…

I hope I get the place downtown.

255am, it just started raining. Yay. Free car wash.

Sadly the most wildlife we saw was around populated areas, only attracted because of food and trash on the ground. This monkey was on a small tropical island off of the coast of Borneo. It knew how to drink bottled water. I would look in a closed trash can, find a water bottle with water in it, nip a hole in the plastic with its teeth, pour the water on to the table and lap it up. Smarter than me–I would have gotten ripped off and paid a $2 for a bottle of water. (yay bokeh)

Canopy Walk. One of the many Disney jungle attractions in the Taman Negara Rainforest. It was actually worth it. The “walk” is a series of rope bridges suspended about 100 feet off of the ground, and perhaps 200 yards in length. Supposedly the longest canopy walk in the world.
