Better Than Normal

Posted by Greg T. on May 27th, 2005 in Uncategorized

Really quick for now. Was at the Courthouse yesterday photoging for the Nexus because it was being designated a National Landmark. It fairly big press event b/c Superior Court Judge Melville (presiding Judge for the Jackson trial), Sec. of the Dept. of the Interior Gale Norton, and others were there.

However a cool moment happened when I was talking to Connie, a photog for European Wire. I asked who was here shooting, and just about every wire serivce had someone there. She also mentioned that Nick Ut…the famous Vietnam photog was there. “No shit!” I exclaimed. So I snapped a shot and talked to him after…just introduced myself, he said if I need help or whatever contact him. What a nice guy.

K off to real loud to photog.

Tree down

Posted by Greg T. on May 26th, 2005 in Uncategorized

The power flickered last night around 1:30am which caused my computer to restart…good thing I wasn’t working on the video project. Turns out a huge tree branch (huge enough that it could be a tree itself) feel across Embar del Mar and onto a Chevy Blazer. Nobody was injured. However it left about 1/4 of IV with out power (not me). Mark called and let me know, so I got into photog mode (when am I not in it) and made some pictures.

After dropping off my pics around 330am, I went back to Pardall and what else…took some more pictures.

Tree down. A large tree spans Embarcadero Del Mar early Thursday morning. The tree knocked out power to many IV residents when it fell onto a park vehicle. (PS. 15 sec ex, used some guy’s 10 million candlepower flood light to paint the tree)

Lights out. Pardall, sans lights. Was an eeire sight.

Part Two

Two updates back to back? Yeah.

jed.jpg
Confrontational Evangelist. Jed Smock, a confrontational evangelist angers and amuses students Tuesday in the Arbor as he rambles on about dinosaurs, Noah’s arc and Buddhism, or a lack of knowledge thereof.

It’s winding down, but not slowing down.

How come the last few weeks here at UCSB have been some of the busiest during my time here? I don’t even have any real classes (no finals, papers, midterms…) but I’ve been spending more time working on school projects than I would have on studying and papers. Well, here’s to two weeks left!

WTF? No pro caption. This scrary-looking baby was part of a large display in Storke Plaza yesterday for the Bhakti Yoga Club Festival. Apologies to Sarvatma who gave me a free lunch in hopes of a feature photo in the Nexus today. What can I say? There’s only so much room, and when a self proclaimed confrontation evangelist is yelling at people…I guess it takes precedence over the Yoga Club fest. Sorry.

Mosaic

Posted by Greg T. on May 21st, 2005 in Uncategorized

Mosaic dj/hip hop show case last night, little api video project party action, and then the artists from the show came over and kicked it. Potatoes good. Playsia practice today, then right to visions taping…messed up some of the tech stuff…bad sound…It was my first time taping in Campbell…guess that’s a lesson learned. Editing and playsia all day tomorrow.

Mosaic. A woman playing traditional Chinese instruments performs with the hip hop crew. DJ Mike Relm was no less than surreal. His mc-ing, scratching, and turntablism are things that can only be explained by experiencing him first hand.

You’re fake. I had to take a picture of the turf on rob field. It’s not normal astro turf, it’s actually faux plastic grass with finely chopped old tries for cushioning.
